To be, or not to be
Dual Enrollment is
definitely a life changing class. It can completely transform an average student
into an all-around, bright student. A lot of people think it solely focuses on
writing, but it also focuses on literary analysis and note-taking. Enrolling in
Dual Enrollment English includes many benefits such as college credits, learning
advanced writing skills, and becoming a college bound writer, and it is very
recommended that you wisely use this amazing opportunity of taking this
class.
This class as a senior in high school is not found in all schools in the
nation. Dual Enrollment is a college-credit class taught on a high school
campus. If you take this class next year and pass with a C or higher, you will
not have to worry about paying for English 111 and English 112 in college! That
is a huge money saver, especially because these English courses in college range
in the thousands, and it costs roughly two hundred dollars a semester. If you
take this class, you will be prepared for college. The first few assignments
teach you how to read, write, and think in college, as well as teaching you how
to take efficient notes. These topics are not brought up in any other class
because it is not a college bound course. Yes, you can get college credits for
AP’s, but you have to take an AP exam, which most are really difficult to get a
3 or higher! The work load in this class is nothing to what you think it
probably is. In the first semester, you will probably have a new essay every
two weeks. Now, that is not scary because Mrs. Manugo teaches lessons on how to
write each specific essay, and you take notes on them before you start them.
The best thing about the essays in this course is that you can choose your own
topics! That is exciting because you can write about something you actually
enjoy, and you learn better that way. In class, there are separate groups for
peer edit sessions, so you can make sure you get a well grade on your essay.
These are usually based off of similar topics. In the second semester, there
are not nearly as many essays, but you have to read one novel and Hamlet. This
semester is a lot less stressful than the first, but you still have to stay on
task with everything because there are not as many big grades that will boost
up your grade!
There should be nothing to worry or stress about if you are taking Dual
Enrollment. Not only is it a great course for college preparation and college
writing, but it is also taught by one of the best teachers in our school. Mrs.
Manugo will prepare you very well for college, and she will strengthen your
overall intelligence as a student. The benefits of taking Dual Enrollment
surpass every other English class that is offered at Bayside High School. Taking Dual Enrollment is an incredible
opportunity that you do not want to miss out
on.
