Senior festivities
Wow, I am completely mind blown from what is happening today. I
am on my way to my son’s graduation from high school, and I am cherishing all of
the moments from his final year in high school. This is it, he made it. Brandon
finished his years of secondary education, and he will move off to college at
Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in the fall. My baby boy
grew up so fast. His last year definitely had its ups and downs, but in the end,
it looks like he is really excited to graduate and really sad to graduate at the
same time.
Brandon always scopes out his future in very positive ways. He does so
many activities, it scares me. I’m afraid to send him off to college because he
becomes involved in just about everything! Even in Grenada over the summer at
the St. George’s Summer Med/Vet Academy, I could barely call me because he
carries away with everything! Whether it is his sports, SCA, clubs, or social
life, he does not have much time outside of school to do whatever he wants. I
never took away his sports because I know how much they mean to him. He is an
amazing all-around athlete, but he sticks to volleyball and soccer. SCA has made
him who he is today with his leadership. Student government takes a vast
majority of time away from him, but he does it because he loves being a leader.
His clubs that he is involved in require community service, which takes free
time away from him when he does have it. He literally has almost no free time to
himself; I don’t understand how he does it. He can barely hold a social life
outside of all of this because he is always busy! Bayside is his second home, so
he will be very sad to leave. He is incredible at time management, granted, he
does procrastinate a lot, which has caused him to struggle this year a lot.
My son was caught up in a horrible case of senioritis this year, and I
absolutely hate it. I’ve almost regretted letting him go to Virginia Tech. I
honestly think he should stay back one more year because he cannot seem to
understand what is important in his life right now! He is too focused on his
extracurricular activities more than anything. I know he has a lot of work for
his senior year, being in seven classes, five being college courses and one
being advanced, but he needs to buckle down for college! His grades kind of
slipped this year, as well as his GPA. It is still relatively high, but the drop
is not acceptable. Anyways, this year flew by for him; he has been freaking out
that he won’t be at Bayside High School anymore! He said he is tired of the high
school work, but I think he is just tired of high school in general. I have to
give it to him though; he survived and is graduating with honors today.
As Brandon is sitting in the Convention Center, there are probably so
many thoughts racing around his mind. He most likely doesn’t know what to think
at the moment: a sense of joy or sadness. His senior year was so much fun for him, I can tell. I am so proud of my son and who he has
become today. I will be looking forward to seeing him succeed in his future
just as much as he is looking forward to it. I just don’t want my baby boy
leaving me for college, and I am very afraid of him going off to college soon.
I guess it is just a part of life.
