Writing Reflection
Since I have been enrolled in Dual Enrollment English in my Senior Year
of high school, I have developed into a completely different student. My overall
writing skills changed drastically due to plenty of practice with essays and
learning more about diction, syntax, grammar, and much more. English 111 taught
me a variety of types of essays, such as description, definition, narrative, and
plenty more. Because of all of the essays I had to write in the first semester,
I now feel extremely comfortable every time I sit down to write a paper. English
112 focused more on arguments and persuasion, which has helped me grasp the
reader’s attention to my papers. Not only have I become a better writer, but I
have become a stronger thinker as well. My thoughts about literature and writing
have matured, changing my vocabulary and tone in an intelligent way. The only
thing that was different in me from the beginning of the school year was the
horrible case of senioritis that I caught in the second semester of school, but
that will be changed as soon as I go off to college. If I continue my study
habits from the second semester onto college, I will not succeed at all. It was
not like me at all, considering I am a very bright honor’s student of the
Health Sciences Academy. In addition to transforming me into a more intellect
student, Dual Enrollment prepared me very well for writing in college. My future plans right now are studying
general biological sciences at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State
University, continuing onto medical school, completing residency, and becoming a
sports medicine specialist. The one thing that has been constantly on my mind
lately is graduating high school and moving out to Blacksburg. Granted, I
understand it will be freezing most of the time, but I am really excited to move
on with my life and future career. I really cannot wait to make new friends in a
new environment that is totally dissimilar to Virginia Beach. My biggest
struggle for college is making my studies come first and foremost in front of my
sports and social life. Sports, especially volleyball and soccer, I feel
complete my life outside of studies. Sports are the love of my life right now,
and it will be challenging to focus less on them as much as I did in high
school. My social life will cut down very much, which will not be too difficult
to do. Basically, I need to go into Virginia Tech knowing my limits. I know how
bright my brain is all around, and I know what I am capable of doing if I set my
mind to it. If it weren’t for taking Dual Enrollment with Mrs. Manugo, I
wouldn’t nearly be the same student as I would be if I took honors or AP
English. I appreciate all the work she has done to make me who I am today as a
student.
